An attempt is made to understand international differences in the severity of the Covid-19 pandemic. Low incidence seems to be associated with low air pollution. On the other hand Georgia, which also has a relatively low incidence of Covid-19, suffers from severe heavy metal pollution. It is proposed that this may have an antiviral effect. Other characteristic features of Georgia, notably its wine culture, may also exert a favourable effect in countering coronaviral epidemics.
