Astrocytes are important cells of CNS glia. They uniquely occupy damaged territory by their star-shaped processes that extend from the cell soma. Astrocytes are functionally connected to adjacent astrocytes and to oligodendrocytes, and take part in the maintenance of environmental glutamate concentration in constant motion. Myelin basic protein (MBP) is one of the proteins implicated in the pathology of multiple sclerosis (MS). Its charge isomers have different effects on the development of this pathology. In this work we investigated the influence of MBP charge isomers on glutamate control by astrocytes.
