Carbon monoxide measurements in BAe 146 aircraft cabins

A. Queen

The concentrations of carbon monoxide in the cabin during 85 short commercial flights in BAe 146 aircraft have been continuously measured using a Draeger sensor and the maximum values recorded. Concentrations ranged from 0 to 23 ppm. Fumes were sometimes detected (by the first officer’s nose and/or eyes), mostly during taxiing, but there was no apparent correlation between high CO levels and the occurrence of fumes.
