The efficiency of malocclusion correction can be significantly increased by using Nd-Fe-B magnets. Methods of theoretical and experimental estimation of interaction forces between magnets in orthodontic apparatus were developed, and the corrosion resistance of protective oxide and nitride coatings deposited on Nd-Fe-B magnets surface was tested. An original method was proposed for calculating magnetic interaction forces for materials with high magnetic anisotropy, found to be in good agreement with experimental measurement. The theoretical model takes into account the sizes of the magnets and the mutual influence of their opposite faces.
