The effect of inhomogeneous broadening due to the surroundings on the excitation profiles of coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) was studied. A quantitative analysis of the CARS excitation profiles for trans-b-carotene, observed by Carreira et al. in 1977, was undertaken using the basic model of vibronic interaction theory. An analytical expression for the shape of the excitation profile with an arbitrary relationship between the relaxation constant G of the vibronic levels and the parameter s characterizing the inhomogeneity of the environment is presented.
