Calculation of tautomeric equilibrium constants in complementary DNA pairs

New formulae for calculating equilibrium constants of lactam–lactim and amino–imine equilibria in complementary DNA pairs are proposed. Equilibrium concentrations of the tautomeric forms of adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine are expressed by bond order fractions (BOF). The application of these formulae gives values of the equilibrium constants that confirm the formation of rare noncanonical forms of complementary pairs and the possibility of point mutations.
