The binding energy of Cd(II) ions with the globular protein C-phycocyanin extracted from Spirulina platensis was determined using equilibrium dialysis and atomic absorption spectroscopy. Cooperative binding of cadmium ions with C-phycocyanin was observed. The binding constants diminished with increasing ionic strength of NaCl, suggesting an adaptive protective response.
