The methods and results of tribological testing nitrided commercially pure titanium–chirulen (ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene) friction pairs of hip-joint endoprostheses are reported. The structure, composition and roughness of the surface layer after thermal-diffusion nitriding are discussed. It has been found that the tribological characteristics of the nitrided commercially pure titanium-chirulen endoprosthetic friction pair compare well with those of zirconium ceramics-chirulen pairs.
