The development and clinical validation of highly effective and long-lived hip-joint endoprostheses with a sapphire head/sapphire cup friction pair, whose wear capacity is superior to all others, is reported. Such endoprostheses have proved themselves positively in clinical practice and may be considered to be very promising for future applications
