A method for the determination of 2,4-D and its toxic metabolites in the biosphere

A method for the quantitative determination of residues of the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and its toxic oxyderivatives has been developed. 14C-2,4-D, thin layer chromatography and hydrolysis of 2,4-D conjugates have been employed to optimize the method. The method is characterized by high specificity and sensitivity; the lower detection limit is 0.02 mg/kg of fresh sample.

Key words: conjugates; herbicide; hydrolysis; 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid
